GW was en route from Wills Creek, Pa./Md. to the Ohio Company’s store at Redstone Creek in Pennsylvania. He was marching with his men and widening the roads in order to ease the delivery of supplies and artillery to Redstone Creek. Va. Lt. Gov. Robert Dinwiddie’s letter to GW on 9 May stated that a small party of sixty men was detached on 25 April to begin the process and the main body of the regiment was not dispatched until this day.
