GW at Mount Vernon. GW hosted his stepson John Parke Custis and his wife, Mrs. Newman, and Mrs. Anne Clifton Slaughter.
GW wrote a letter to Pa. Continental Congress representative John Dickinson regretfully notifying him and Thomas Lloyd that the issuing of patents for westward lands was prohibited by the Secretary’s Office for Lands. GW added that the land’s proprietors, himself included, would be left in a state of uncertainty over the ownership of their lands until King George III’s orders were known.
