GW at Mount Vernon with some guests.
George Mason wrote GW on this date and enclosed a copy of his plan for organizing a Fairfax County militia. Mason asked GW to edit the plan as necessary.
Gilbert Simpson also wrote GW from western Pa. on this date to inform him of the land dispute between Virginian Thomas Cresap and other settlers. Cresap had purchased Indian land in a territory claimed by both Virginia and Pennsylvania. Most settlers came from Virginia and Maryland and wanted the land to be kept under Virginia’s jurisdiction.
