GW at Philadelphia. Thomas Jefferson returned the letters of James Seagrove, agent to the Creek Indians, to GW and also sent the names of three candidates for the office of Treasurer of the U.S. Mint for GW’s evaluation.

Secretary of War Henry Knox sent GW the Indians’ reply to his speech, which offered peace overtures and explained the hostilities with the western Indians. The reply was likely Red Jacket’s speech of 31 March, which accepted this explanation emphasized their mutual desire for peace.
