GW at Philadelphia. GW wrote to Thomas Jefferson asking if Jefferson and James Madison could meet with him over a family dinner to discuss matters concerning the District of Columbia.

GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear wrote to James Pemberton, a prominent Quaker in Philadelphia, to return a speech by the Quakers to be given to a deputation of Cherokee Indians then in Philadelphia. Lear wrote that the speech could be delivered to the Cherokees, as it contained the friendly sentiments GW wished to impart upon them.
