GW’s nephew and former presidential secretary, Bartholomew Dandridge, Jr., wrote him from Philadelphia where he prepared to depart for Holland and his new post as secretary to the U.S. minister.  Dandridge thanked his uncle for his “various testimonies of generous approbation” and reported that a chandelier that GW had inquired about had been shipped to Mount Vernon.
