GW at Philadelphia. GW wrote to Georgetown, Md. merchants William Deakins, Jr. and Benjamin Stoddert, informing them that architect Maj. Pierre L’Enfant would be surveying the lands chosen for the new federal city. GW also wrote to King Louis XVI of France emphasizing his continued friendship, as well as his esteem for the newly departed French Minister to the U.S., the comte de Moustier.

R.I. Congressman Benjamin Bourne wrote to GW recommending Maj. John S. Dexter for an appointment in the collection of excise duties in R.I. Dexter would soon be appointed.
