GW attended the first meeting of the Second Continental Congress, which was held in the Philadelphia State House. The Congress was meant to plan further responses to the British government. Peyton Randolph was elected president and Charles Thomson was chosen as secretary. GW had dinner at Thomas Mifflin’s and spent the night at cabinetmaker Benjamin Randolph’s home.
