GW at Mount Vernon. In his diary he wrote that he hosted Dr. William Rumney and Alexandria, Va. merchant Robert Adam for dinner and the night and ship captain Lyonel Bradstreet, who would be taking over GW’s ship Farmer, for dinner.

Thomas Lewis and Samuel McDowell wrote a public letter published in the Virginia Gazette to the Va. Delegates expressing their appreciation and gratitude for the “preservation of American liberty” within the Continental Congress. The Va. Delegates wrote a response to Lewis and McDowell, also printed in the Virginia Gazette, thanking them for their kind words and appreciation.
