GW at Mount Vernon. His guests, Dr. Walter Hanson Jenifer, his wife Ann, and Mrs. Sinah Ball McCarty of Pope’s Creek Va. all left after breakfast. GW was at home for the rest of the day.

London merchant Samuel Athawes wrote a letter from England to GW with details on shipping his goods. Charles Carroll of Carollton also wrote GW a letter requesting his patronage, support, and distribution of a pamphlet called, An Essay on the Culture and Management of Hemp, More Particularly for the Purpose of Making Course Linens.
