GW presumably on his way to Alexandria, Va. from Williamsburg. In Oct. 1754, he entered in his account with the Colony of Va. a charge of £4 10s. 6d. for “Expences in comeing down Potomack River for Canoes Men hire &c.” as desired by Col. Charles Carter. Due to the timing of his travels to and from Williamsburg, GW most likely made this trip down the Potomac River at the end of July into the beginning of Aug. 1754 on his way to Alexandria.
