GW presumably at Mount Vernon.

GW’s sister Betty Washington Lewis died at the home of her daughter in Culpeper County, Va.  He acknowledged her death when he wrote his nephew George Lewis on 9 April and again when he wrote David Humphreys on 26 June: “The Seal of this Letter being black is occasioned by the death of my only Sister, Mrs Lewis late of Fredericksburgh.”

Alexander Spotswood wrote GW on this date regarding land transactions and to report that he had delayed departing for his trip to Kentucky until 4 April.
