GW at Mount Vernon, where he oversaw repairs to the mansion house. He had hired painters but sought  proper workmen to fix a chimney. GW wrote Tobias Lear asking if he could find someone for hire by Monday or Tuesday.

GW’s step-grandson George Washington Parke Custis, then attending college at Princeton, N.J., wrote a letter regarding his studies.

Prominent Philadelphian William Bingham wrote GW to expect visits at Mount Vernon from three French princes in exile, Louis-Philippe, duc d'Orléans; Antoine-Philippe d'Orléans, duc de Montpensier; and Louis-Charles d'Orléans, comte de Beaujolais.  The three French princes visited Mount Vernon during the next month.
