GW at Philadelphia. GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear wrote Matthew Clarkson acknowledging Clarkson’s intention to resign from the office of Marshal for the N.Y. district, thanking him for his service, and asking him to remain in office until a successor could be appointed. Clarkson was ultimately succeeded by Aquila Giles in May.

Ga. Congressman Francis Willis wrote GW asking for an army appointment for one of his sons. His request would not be granted.
