GW presumably at Mount Vernon.

George Clinton, Governor of N.Y., wrote GW inviting him to stay with his family when his election to the presidency of the United States was announced. Charlestown, Mass., merchant Nathaniel Gorham wrote GW to congratulate him on being elected president, though GW had not been officially elected. He also solicited the position of Principal Revenue Officer of Mass. He would be ultimately unsuccessful in this application.
