GW at Philadelphia. Congressional chaplain Samuel Blair wrote to GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear declining GW’s invitation to dine next Thursday because of ill health.

Lawyer and planter Benjamin Galloway wrote GW from Annapolis requesting help for a gentleman once in GW’s employ, probably William Shaw, who had lost much of his property. William Archibald McCrea wrote GW asking for appointment as Treasurer of the U.S. Mint, which he would not later receive.
