GW at Philadelphia. At GW’s order, his personal secretary Tobias Lear sent Secretary of War Henry Knox an enclosure from the officers of the district of Ky.

Alexander Hamilton wrote GW a draft of a report. It involved funding further military expeditions against hostile Indians. Senator Benjamin Hawkins wrote GW recommending that Va. Gov. Henry Lee be appointed to a military command against the Indians. Thomas Jefferson enclosed in a letter to GW two letters from U.S. Minister to Portugal David Humphreys, which contained information on Brazil and on Spain’s inclination to negotiate with the United States.
