GW was presumably still in Williamsburg, Va. where he and Capt. James Mackay of the independent company from S.C. delivered their account of the Fort Necessity campaign to Va. Lt. Gov. Robert Dinwiddie and the general public on 19 July. It is possible that by this time GW might have left Williamsburg for the regimental headquarters in Alexandria, Va. where he arrived in early August.

On this day, Dinwiddie made a report to the Board of Trade which was based on GW’s and Mackay’s statement about the failed campaign at the Great Meadows, Pennsylvania.
