Daniel Rodman wrote to GW asking to be nominated to the Collector Office of the Port of Newport. Rodman wrote how he had sacrificed so much for the nation by loaning the Continental Congress money to fund the war effort, which left him in a tough financial situation. He also pointed out his prominent leadership roles in R.I. and included character references.
