In Va., GW traveled from Richmond and arrived in Petersburg. In his diary, GW worried that Petersburg’s trade would decline because of a future canal.

GW at Richmond, Va. GW toured the canal with Gov. Beverley Randolph and the directors of the James River Navigation Company, of which GW was president. GW described the canal in his diary.

GW traveled from Mount Vernon to Dumfries, Va. GW wrote in his diary that all of his horses, harnessed to his carriage, jumped overboard during the ferry ride at Colchester.

GW travelling from Wilmington, Del., to Warwick, Md., to Chester, Md. GW, in his diary, noted that his group planned to embark by boat from Rockhall, Md. in the morning.

GW travelling from Chester, Pa. to Wilmington, Del. GW noted in his diary that he continued on his tour of the southern states, navigating the bad roads into Del. and across the Chesapeake Bay.
