GW was still marching with his men from Wills Creek, Pa./Md. to Redstone Creek, Pa., where the military was to build a temporary fortification. The colonial troops laboriously created and widened roads as they traveled that allowed wagons full of artillery and baggage to pass easily as well as larger concentrations of soldiers. Once at Redstone Creek–as decided in the 23 April Council of War–the men waited for the proper supplies and support before marching to attack the French fort on the Monongahela River.
