Augustine Seaton, citing his experience as a quartermaster in the Continental army, wrote to GW asking to be appointed superintendent of the lighthouse at Cape Henry. He would not receive the position. William Smith, a member of the House of Representatives, recommended Daniel Stevens for the position of Supervisor of Revenue. Stevens later received this appointment from GW for the state of S.C.
