GW wrote to Georgetown, Md. merchants William Deakins, Jr. and Benjamin Stoddert ordering them to cease negotiations with David Burn for buying his land in the newly defined federal district. GW also sent a message, through his secretary Tobias Lear, to author Ebenezer Hazard, subscribing to his printed collection of historical state papers.

John Dandridge, son of GW’s brother-in-law, wrote GW supporting Lewis Pauly’s claims against the state of Va. John Hodgson wrote asking GW whether a soldier named David Johnson had ever served under him. Territorial judge Rufus Putnam wrote to GW detailing Indian threats on the Western frontier and describing Virginia’s fortifications against the Indians.
