GW at Philadelphia. GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear wrote to tailor Hercules Mulligan on GW’s behalf, seeking black mole skin, presumably for breeches.

Pierre L’Enfant, who had been appointed to design the Federal City, wrote GW to complain about the conduct of the Commissioners for the District of Columbia and their imprisonment of civil engineer Issac Roberdeau. Philadelphia brewer and former soldier Francis Wade wrote GW from Pa. about the Indian War and the plans of British officers living in his neighborhood, which might “prove hostile to the peace, Commerce, and Interest of America.”
