GW at Philadelphia. Secretary of War Henry Knox wrote GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear, submitting a draft of a letter to Creek chief Alexander McGillivray for GW’s perusal and correction. Knox asked for its quick return as it had to be given to Leonard Shaw, the deputy agent to the Cherokee nation. Lear returned the letter, with GW’s corrections, to Knox the same day.
