GW at Philadelphia. He dined with twenty-two of the visiting Five Nations chiefs, their interpreter, and Rev. Samuel Kirkland.

Secretary of War Henry Knox sent GW a report by Dr. Deodat Allen, Mohawk Chief Joseph Brandt’s letter to Kirkland, and Senator Oliver Ellsworth’s recommendation of Israel Chapin for employment.

Baltimore stagecoach owner Gabriel Peterson Van Horne wrote to GW proposing a system by which mail could be delivered from Philadelphia to Richmond, and vice versa, in eight days as opposed to ten.
