30 April 1775

GW went to Alexandria, Va., and returned in the afternoon.

GW wrote a memorandum to  his brother-in-law Fielding Lewis detailing his business affairs in progress. GW wrote a letter to Warner Lewis that Fielding Lewis would be handling his business since GW would be unable to attend the spring meeting of merchants in Williamsburg.

Alexander Spotswood wrote GW a letter dated on this day, informing him that they would not march to Williamsburg to demand the gunpowder stolen by Va. Gov. Lord Dunmore. Spotswood also said that he believed GW would have command of the colony’s forces if Congress established a regular army throughout the continent. He asked to be commissioned an officer if that happened.
