James Hendricks, a merchant from Alexandria, Va., who would later serve as an officer with the Va. troops in the Revolutionary War, was one of the many who visited GW on this day.  Maj. Horatio Gates and GW’s friend Bryan Fairfax came for dinner and stayed the night. Gates had been a captain in the British army, but retired after the French and Indian War. Gates probably discussed with GW the recent battles of Lexington, Mass., and Concord, Mass., as well as the possibilities of serving for the American troops against Lt. Gen. Thomas Gage.  Both GW and Gates had previously served with Gage, at who was at the moment the commander of the British troops in Boston.
