GW in Philadelphia for the Second Continental Congress. GW had dinner at Daniel Smith’s City Tavern with delegates from the Congress. These men included Peyton Randolph, Richard Henry Lee, Benjamin Harrison, of Va.; John Alsop of N.Y.; Samuel Chase of Md.; and George Read and Caesar Rodney of Del.
GW was written a letter by James Cleveland, whom he had hired to develop his western lands. In the letter, Cleveland described to GW his difficulties in travelling to fulfill this task, including preventing servants from running away and obtaining supplies.
