GW at the State House in Philadelphia for the Second Continental Congress. In today’s proceedings, N.Y. delegates brought up the topic of how N.Y. should conduct itself regarding the British troops that were expected to enter the colony. A resolution was passed whereby a committee was formed to decide which posts in N.Y. should be defended and how many troops would be required for this defense strategy. The committee consisted of GW, Thomas Lynch of S.C., Samuel Adams of Mass., and all of the delegates from N.Y.
GW dined at Burns’s tavern. He spent the night in his lodgings at cabinetmaker Benjamin Randolph’s home.
