GW left New York City and lodged for the night at King’s Bridge at the Northern end of Manhattan Island. The New York provincial congress wrote an address to GW declaring their confidence in him in the “Glorious Struggle for American Liberty.” GW immediately wrote a response back to the New York provincial congress expressing his utmost gratitude and sentiments of honor during this “fatal but necessary Operations of War.”
