GW in N.Y. In his diary, GW wrote that he spent part of the day riding with Mrs. Washington in their coach. GW also met with many “respectable” visitors.

John Armstrong, a former soldier who had met GW during the French and Indian War, wrote to GW asking for an appointment for his youngest son. He later received an appointment. Senator Oliver Ellsworth, on behalf of William Judd, and former officer Archibald Crary also wrote asking for federal appointments, but did not receive offers.

Printer Francis Bailey wrote to GW asking that a Congressional committee help him maintain his exclusive right to his invention of counterfeit-proof types.

Harrison County, Va., field officers wrote a letter expressing the grave situation their citizens were facing due to Indian incursions and asked for greater government protection.
