GW at Philadelphia. GW wrote to Roman Catholic bishop John Carroll thanking him for his idea of giving the Indians religious instruction.

GW at Philadelphia. GW sent Thomas Jefferson an unidentified enclosure, which concerned the loan to fund construction in the federal city drawn up by Philadelphia merchant Samuel Blodget, Jr.

GW at Philadelphia. Congressional chaplain Samuel Blair wrote to GW’s personal secretary Tobias Lear declining GW’s invitation to dine next Thursday because of ill health.

GW at Philadelphia. GW wrote Congress asking for a bill that authorized more than one brigadier general, since military forces had recently been increased for defending the frontier.
